Work Experience

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

We need help from November 1 – December 22 as we mobilize 1,000 volunteers to help us bring families home for the holidays. We especially need help at our Carter Place build and at each of our four ReStores. Please consider lending a helping hand as we work together to bring families home!

Volunteer Here!

Habitat’s Work Experience program allows you to help families in your community gain access to affordable home ownership while you learn transferable skills to strengthen your resume.

Work Experience Opportunities

Work Experience Volunteers commit to 10 shifts over a 3-month time period at our build sites or in our ReStores. Upon completion you will receive a certificate to include in your resume. This certificate details the hours you volunteered, tasks completed, and includes comments about your work ethic, communication skills, and punctuality.

Construction. Volunteers work at one of our active build sites to construct affordable homes for local families in need. Learned skills may include: foundations, framing, insulation, drywall, building decks, finishing work, painting, and more.

ReStore. ReStore sell new and gently-used building materials and home improvement items that have been generously donated by the public. Work Experience at ReStore helps volunteers to strengthen the Habitat program while helping the environment by diverting items from landfills. Learned skills may include: visual merchandising, product knowledge, and customer service. There are four locations in Edmonton.

Habitat provides:

  • All personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • All tools, equipment, and lunch
  • Hands-on training

What does Habitat require of me?

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • A great attitude and willingness to learn
  • A firm commitment to shifts
  • No physical limitations to mobility or restrictions to bending or lifting
  • Ability to be on your feet for the majority of the day
  • Conversation English (LINC 5)

Community Contributors

We understand that not everyone is able to commit to 10 shifts. For a more flexible option, consider becoming a Community Contributor! If you volunteer with us for 5 shifts in a 12 month time period, we can provide a Letter of Contribution, detailing your contribution to Habitat for Humanity.

No application required, simply register as a volunteer and schedule shifts that work with your schedule. Once you have completed your 5 shifts, email volunteer@hfh.org to request your letter.
